Draw Something is a drawing guessing game from developer OMGPOP. If you’ve checked out the App Store lately, it is currently the number 1 app in both the paid and free section. AT first, I wasn’t too interested really in checking it out until I saw that a lot of my friends on Facebook and Twitter were playing it so I decided to give it a shot. I’m all for games that I can play with my friends and Draw Something allowed me to express myself more creatively with my drawings. Don’t worry though if you can’t draw because that’s really part of the fun. Most of the people you play probably can’t draw either so half the fun of playing is watching how they struggle to come up with something to portray the word they get.

I’m going to start this off right away by saying that drawing on the iPhone with your finger can be a frustrating thing. First off, your finger is not very accurate and it’s really hard to draw when you can’t see what’s under your fat fingers. That means most drawings will not be very accurate and it’s difficult drawing accurate details this way. Now, if you’re playing with an iPad, it’s a completely different experience. This game fits the iPad so well. You get a large drawing area and it’s much easier to draw with your finger on this. The experience gets even better if you happen to have a stylus handy. This is my preferred method of playing this game as I use the iPad 2 and a Targus stylus. If you don’t have an iPad, I would still suggest you get yourself a stylus for the iPhone/iPod Touch as it will make your experience with this game much better.

At the beginning of each game, you are given 3 words, each word is given a coin value based on the difficulty of the word – 1 coin for the easiest word, 3 coins for the hardest. Coins are collected for each correct answer your opponent gets as well as each correct answer you guess. You need coins to buy more colors in the game as well as for power ups like hints and bombs, which will give you new words if you can’t draw any of the words they initially give you. Most people however should never need to use the power ups if they just try. Most words you can guess if you can’t quite tell what the drawing is of if you just take a look at the letter tiles they give you and the amount of letters for that word. While Draw Something is a drawing game, it is also a word game that will appeal to players who like games like Word with Friends.

I suggest that most people at least download the free version of Draw Something to see if it’s something they might want to play and see if they have friends playing it. This way, you won’t have to shell out $0.99 if none of your friends are playing. Sure you can play with randoms, but games like this are much funner playing with people you know.

Draw Something is a very fun social game you can play with your friends. If you have Facebook, you’ll most likely find someone to play with as it is a very popular game right now. As fun as the game is, there are a few quirks with it and a few things I’d like to see in future updates that would make the gameplay a bit more enjoyable and less frustrating. I’d like too see the addition of an undo button as making a mistake and having to erase it with an eraser is tedious. Same goes for trashing your drawing and having to redraw the entire thing all over again if you make a massive drawing mistake. There also needs to be some sort of option to create your own colors using a color wheel or something instead of the set colors they offer you to purchase. This makes it very limited sometimes in what you can create accurately. I wouldn’t even mind if I had to use coins for it, it’d just like to see it as an option. My final suggestion is a biggie and it’s the addition of a chat feature. You can not converse with someone you are playing with unless you draw out what you want to say on the drawing area.

Aside from that, I’m having a blast playing Draw Something. I have several games going on at the same time and it’s always fun seeing what people come up with for certain words.
