The Lost Gorilla is a storybook app from My Digital Photo Story and is part of the “Mom, It’s Me!” series. In this book, the magical kite will take your child to an adventure in Africa – helping a baby gorilla find her parents. Your child will need to spot the different animals hiding in each page before eventually reaching the parents gorillas. All of the this embedded in a fun story in which your child is the star! The main attraction of The Lost Gorilla though is your child. This app allows you to take a photo of your child’s face and paste it to the body of the main character in the story, thus making your child the star.

This is a pretty straight forward storybook app. You can start off by inserting a photo of your child’s face to the main character in the story, but you don’t have too. Each page is narrated with the option to either turn off the narration or to remove the text. Each page in the book has multiple tap points that allow your child to interact with the story. Interactions can include tapping on objects to make them move, dragging objects around the screen, and tapping around the screen to look for hidden animals.

The Lost Gorilla – Mom, It’s Me! is a good example of what should be included in a storybook app. The story itself is pretty interesting and imaginative. I like how pretty much each page in the book is interactive and has multiple tap points for kids to interact with. It however isn’t the most feature rich storybook app I’ve seen as it doesn’t really include any extra activities outside of the story such as games or puzzles, but given that the price of the app is only $0.99, I can forgive that.
