Sony’s New Advanced Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 Camera Sounds Awesome

I posted up about this camera over at G Style Magazine but I wanted to share a bit about it here as well. What you’re looking at is one of the most impressive point-and-shoot cameras I’ve seen in a long time. Sony really did their homework here and created something that surpasses everyone compact camera in its class.

The Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 features a new 1.0-inch type Exmor® CMOS sensor with a resolution of 20.2 effective megapixels. That means that it has the same sized sensor as the Nikon J1. It is also paired with a really impressive lens, the Carl Zeiss® Vario-Sonnar T* fixed lens with 3.6x optical zoom range and a wide F1.8 maximum aperture. It even has a new control ring around the lens that allows you to manual focus the lens, as well as control other customizable functions. These are things you don’t normally find on lesser compact cameras.

If you’re looking into purchasing a new compact camera, I suggest holding off until this camera comes out. The price may seem a bit much at $650, but based on specs alone, it isn’t really as much as you would think. The price puts it in line with a FujiFilm FinePix X10.

You can pre-order the Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 here on Amazon and they’ll ship it when it becomes available – Sony DSC-RX100 20.2 MP Exmor CMOS Sensor Digital Camera with 3.6x Zoom
