I’ve reviewed a couple of the Stella and Sam story book apps in the past and have generally been happy with them based on their excellent stories and interactive elements. Draw Along with Stella and Sam is another adventure in the series from developer Zink Roe. This app however is a bit different from the others as it doesn’t really follow a story line. Instead, users are treated to a brief introduction by Stella and Sam explaining the activity they are doing. After which, a series of cutouts are shown that you can choose from to color in and decorate. Once completed, your decorated shapes are transported to an imaginary settings where Stella and Sam make up interesting stories and scenarios for them.
As usual with the Stella and Sam apps, voice acting is superb as well as the animations in the app. Children will really enjoy this and Draw Along is by far the most interactive of the Stella and Sam apps I’ve looked at so far. Kids can save their creations and animations and go back and redecorate them differently each time. The tools they include are also really nice there are several to choose from. There is a pencil, crayon, marker (which is more like a paintbrush), stamp tool, camera tool that lets you add photos, and an eraser. In fact, there are more drawing tools on here then some dedicated drawing apps I’ve seen.
Draw Along with Stella and Sam is one of the nicer Stella and Sam apps I’ve seen. Again, it doesn’t really follow a story line where there is a beginning and an end. Instead it’s more of an activity adventure that never ends. If your kids are big fans of Stella and Sam or even if they are not, they’ll really enjoy this. It’s a fun app and they’ll have a good time playing with it.
Draw Along with Stella and Same is available now in the App Store for $1.99. It is compatible with iPad.Requires iOS 4.3 or later.
