Rainy Days: A Stella and Sam Adventure is an animated, interactive story adventure by developers zinc Roe Productions. Rainy Days: A Stella and Sam Adventure is based on the popular television show and the bestselling picture book series by Marie-Louise Gay. The story follows the rainy day adventure of Stella and Sam and how they turned a gloomy, rainy day into a day filled with fun. Rainy Days: A Stella and Sam Adventure is strictly a kids app and one that I think will appeal to kids of all ages.
I’ve never seen the television show or the books before but what I can tell you is that the characters themselves are very cute and I can see how kids would be drawn to this show. Unlike some other story adventures on the iPad, this one is fully animated and plays out like a television episode. The only difference between this and a TV show is that there are parts of the story which are interactive where children are encouraged to participate.
The interactive parts in the story are fairly easy to play. Again, this is for really young children so the games in Rainy Days: A Stella and Sam Adventure are very easy. In fact, they aren’t really games, they are more like activities that help young children follow instructions while also being creative. The activities include drawing with paint, uncovering objects beneath a pile of leaves, and piloting a make believe boat. It’s very age appropriate and each activity is part of the story so it’s not just something random.
Rainy Days: A Stella and Sam Adventure is a great children’s adventure even though it’s a bit short. It’s almost like watching a short episode of the series with activities thrown in so that youngsters will have something to interact with and feel like they are part of the story. The story itself is pretty good but I do wish that they would put some text at the bottom so that we could read along with the story. Other than that, the app is quite nice and the animations in it are very good. The games are a bit easy but it’s targeted towards young children so I think they’ll really enjoy it in my opinion.
Rainy Days: A Stella and Sam Adventure is available now in the App Store for $2.99. It is compatible with iPad. Requires iOS 4.2 or later.
