KinderZoo v1.01 for iOS Review [TheGamerWithKids.com]

Kinderzoo is an educational children’s game from developer Spark Plug Games. The game teaches you children (K to 1st grade) about basic math and spelling. Starting with the math portion, Kinderzoo will teach and refresh kids on identifying numbers, counting, and simple addition and subtracting. On the spelling side of things, Kinderzoo offers identifying letters, basic spelling, and more advanced spelling. Kinderzoo puts a little spin to educational learning however by making it a bit more interactive and more appealing to kids by adding the zoo theme with animals and a zoo keeper. Kinderzoo makes learning very accessible to children. Instead of having to type out letters or numbers on a keypad, you instead guide a zookeeper around the play area collecting animals with the corresponding numbers or letters. All you have to do is drag your finger around the screen to guide the zookeeper to the correct answers. Kinderzoo also features a complete narrations which is a problem I see on some other educational games where they don’t even narrate words or numbers. Kids like to learn with both visual and audio stimulation.

Kinderzoo is a good example of an educational game that makes learning more interactive and accessible. It’s not without some little quirks however. Gameplay can be a bit repetitive and slow as guiding the zookeeper around is much slower than just tapping on the correct letters or numbers. Other than that though, it’s a nice little app for kids especially if they are still learning their numbers and alphabets.

KinderZoo is available now in the App Store for $0.99. It is a universal app and is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.Requires iOS 3.1.3 or later.
