Here’s a little chart that quickly sums up what kind of charger you need to for your various iOS powered devices. It’s for lightning port equipped Apple devices, although the chart remains true for even the old 30 pin devices. Basically if you have and iPhone and iPad, you’re better off going straight for a 12 watt charger as these will work for all iOS devices. If you get a 5 watt charger, it can still charge an iPad, but just very slowly. When I travel, I usually only take my iPad charger that it came with because this is a 12 watt charger and can handle pretty much all my USB powered devices even if it’s not an iOS device. I keep the tiny 5 watt charger at home.
