DreamWorks Dash n Drop v1.1.1 iOS Review – An Official Rise of the Guardians Game

Dreamworks Dash n Drop from PikPok is a side-scrolling adventure game based on the new film from Dreamworks Animations, Rise of the Guardians. There’s trouble at the North Pole and all the presents have been scattered all over the world. It’s your job to use the Guardian’s magical sleigh and collect all the presents and deliver them to the children. It may sound easy but you also have to avoid evil nightmare creatures who will steal all the presents you’ve collected. This obviously is a holiday game so once Christmas has come and gone, most people will probably not play this anymore, however while we’re still in the holiday season, Dash n Drop is a rather fun Christmas themed game.

Dash n Drop plays like an endless running game, but it’s not. That’s due to the fact that each set of levels have a time limit for you to complete them as well as needing to collect “belief” in order to move on. Belief is basically how much children believe in the spirit of Christmas, I guess. You collect belief by collecting presents and then delivering them to children. This will increase the belief bar. The more you increase this bar, the more stars you will earn for each level, up to 3 stars. You need to gain at least 1-star per level in order to move on to the next.

Enemy nightmares are scattered throughout each level. Hitting one of them won’t kill you, but it will make you lose presents which means you’ll lose belief. They will also slow down your progress. Try your best to avoid them in order deliver your presents, otherwise you can not continue.

Playing the game is very easy. It’s basically a 1 finger affair and can be played 1 handed. The sleigh will naturally fly to the top. All you need to do is tap on the screen or hold down to make the sleigh fly down. Very simple. You can also collect coins throughout the game that are used to upgrade your sleigh and powers in the workshop. Again, it plays out almost like an endless running game, it’s just not.

Honestly, I have no idea what Rise of the Guardians is about but it does look like a neat movie and as far as movie tie in games go, Dash n Drop is pretty good and very well polished. The graphics and audio are really good, making it a great overall package. The only thing annoying about the game are the pop-up ads that appear every now and then, but at least those are for free games.

DreamWorks Dash n Drop is available now in the App Store for $0.99. It is a universal app and is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.
