Here’s a good example of a game that I had never seen or heard of before, but because it had such a catchy looking app icon, I decided to give it a download. Gesundheit is an adventure puzzle game from Revolutionary Concepts that features a pig that flings snot. If the icon doesn’t get you, the description should. Help the little pig gather star fruit while avoiding wacky creatures that would want nothing more than to eat you.

One of the most striking things about the game are its graphics. According to the description, everything is hand drawn which gives it a very personal feel. These are bland, perfectly rendered polygons. Instead, they are imperfect little drawings that show life and real character to them. Everything from the character designs to the level designs give off a feeling of whimsical enjoyment. It’s just a very fun looking game. Same goes for the audio. Sound effects and background music are very fun sounding and add to the overall feel and look of the game. It’s a very enjoyable experience all around.

Gameplay is simple and easy to learn. Basically hold down in the direction you wish to move your little piggy and he will move in the direction. Collect star fruit hidden throughout the level while avoiding the giant monster. The monster will chase you if he sees you, but you can distract him by flinging snot in his direction which he will chase. End the level by getting the monster eaten by another much larger monster. There are puzzling elements involved as well as you’ll need to figure out how the proper way to maneuver around the level without being caught as well as ways to activate buttons that open up doors that help complete the level.

Gesundheit is a fun, good looking game. It’s easy to pick up and play, but offers a lot of action packed, challenging play. In my opinion, it’s a fantastic overall package and a good example of what a good game can be like on iOS.
