Deco Sketch v1.8.1 for iOS Review

decosketch_iconMobile phones have created a new generation of photographers. Despite what traditional photographers are saying, these new age photographers and novices can create stunning photos even with something as non-professional as a camera-phone. I’d argue that the the iPhone helped popularize this trend especially with all the really neat photo editing apps available for it. For example, on of the newest photo editing apps for iOS is Deco Sketch and it offers up some unique editing features that I haven’t seen from other apps. What it does is allows you to add geometric effects to your photos or you can create something new on a blank canvas.

Deco Sketch starts off with you selecting a photo from your album or to sketch on a blank canvas. If you choose a blank canvas, you can choose from 3 different resolutions and 3 different canvas orientations. From there you can start creating your masterpiece. Basically Deco Sketch offers up a wide range of geometric “brushes,” each with several presets already installed that you can use right away. If you don’t like any of the presets, Deco Sketch allows you to customize each brush and make your own.

It’s a simple app to use if you don’t want to mess with the advanced brush making features. Just pick a brush and paint it on your canvas or photo. You can set brush thickness and opacity too based on speed of your strokes. If you want to get more advanced, just hit the settings button and you’ll see a ton of options you can choose from to customize brushes, how they behave, and whether or not your strokes affect them. After you choose your brush, just choose a color and paint them on. It’s that easy. If you don’t like the results, you can undo your strokes.

Deco Sketch is a really unique photo editing app. You don’t actually do any photo editing in the traditional sense. It’s more of an enhancement app where you can enhance your photos with additional geometric designs to compliment the original photo. What’s great too is that it is a universal app so it will work just as well on an iPhone as it would on an iPad and there are no pesky in-app purchases to worry about.
