Tile Ville for iOS Review

tile_ville_iconIf you are looking for a relaxing, unique puzzle game that features some pretty good graphics, check out Tile Ville by CatCap Studio. Tile Ville as you can sort of guess from the title has to do with the solving of tiled puzzles. This game is similar to those old school handheld sliding tile puzzles that you’ve probably played when you were younger. Tiles are mixed around on a board and you must move them around in order to form the exact pattern that is shown to you. There are over 90+ levels to solve so those wanting a game that will keep them occupied for a long while should definitely check this out.

I’ll start this off with the overall user experience of the game. The graphics are very well done and have a bit of a blocky look to them combined with some very colorful art. It’s not blocky like pixel art but more similar to the art style of something like the Wow Wow Wubbzy kid’s show. It works well for this type of game. When you solve each puzzle, the board turns into a zen like scene. The audio in the game isn’t bad either though the background music can be a little annoying after a while. There is a way to turn off the music, but that also turns off the sound effects for the tile movements which is a shame. I wish they would have separated this toggle instead of combining them together.

Gameplay as explained consists of the board and a series of tiles. You have to match the pattern of the tiles with the image that is shown in the top right to complete the board. It’s not terribly hard, but the difficulty level increases as you get further along in the game. You start off with 3×3 puzzles but they increase as well the further you get. It’s a nice gradual increase that allows you to gradually get better and better.

Overall, Tile Ville is a great looking, sliding tile puzzle game that represents the genre well. It’s fun, challenging, and can actually be a bit relaxing as it takes you mind off other things. It does have in-app purchases, but honestly, you’ll never need to go into the store at all to enjoy the game.
