Super Kitty is a new game from Dan-ionut Chris that is based on the Cat Mario games. It is supposed to be a” super hilarious” comedy platform game, but instead, it’s more like an exercise of trial and error and repetition. In that respect, it’s also a type of memory game in which you must memorize every instance of every trap that can appear and remember how to avoid them. Death occurs a lot in this game and it’s your job to remember where and how you can die in order to progress further and further into the game.
Let’s start with the the gameplay here. For the most part, Super Kitty plays like a platformer, not dissimilar to Super Mario Bros. In fact, it emulates a lot from that game. Anyone who has played Super Mario Bros. will find Super Kitty quite familiar though there are some differences. This game forces you to play over and over again. A jump here could result in a death, or a broken block could cause an entire row of blocks to fall on your head. Ever standing in the wrong spot could lead to your doom. There are so many unexpected ways to die that you’ll either find it quite hilarious or overly frustrating.
Graphically, it again emulates much of Super Mario Bros. There are a lot of similar elements, like the background, blocks, and enemies. Though it isn’t a copy of the original art assets, there’s no denying that it is influenced much by Mario. Still, the graphics are pretty good with bright, colorful art and a decent homage to Mario.
Super Kitty is an interesting game. You think it’s platformer, which it sort of is, but it also ends up being a game that tests your memory and ultimately your patience. Some people can’t handle constantly dying over and over again but for those that can, the game can prove to be quite fun. I just like how death can come anywhere in the game and with each step or jump you take, you’re always hoping that it’s not right into a trap, but in all likelihood, it is.
