Every now and then, I want to play a game that requires very little thinking that I can just pick up and play. These games can be quite appealing as most require just simple gameplay mechanics and can be played in very short sessions while providing tons of challenge. For instance, I recently discovered a game called Stick Hero that is not only easy to play, but can be so challenging and frustrating that you’ll want to throw your phone out the window. Despite this, it’s one of those games that you just can’t stop playing.
Stick Hero has a simple premise: make a stick long enough to get from one platform to the other without falling. Make a stick too short and he’ll fall. Make a stick too long and he will also fall off. the stick has to be just right. This might sound really simple, but it’s not. The reason for this is that the game randomizes the distance between each platform as well as the width of each platform. You could end up with a really wide platform or a platform that is literally only a few millimeters wide. Needless to say, this usually causes your run to end as it’s impossible hard to get a stick of the right size to fall exactly where the tiny platforms are.
Anyways, the game is mainly to see how many platforms you can get on. It’s similar to something like Flappy Birds where the difficulty is high as well as the frustration, but it’s so hard to put down. What I will say though about Stick Hero is that I think the graphics are much better than Flappy Birds ever was and the gameplay here isn’t as impossible as Flappy Birds was. Overall, Stick Hero can be pretty fun and makes a decent time waster.
