Peggle Blast Review [iOS]

peggleblast_iconPeggle is one of those games that just never gets old. The first time I played it was back when it first came out on Xbox Live and have since played it on other platforms including iOS, PSN, and on PC. Peggle if you don’t know is highly influenced by the game of pachinko, a Japanese game in which small marbles are dropped down through a cascading forest of pins. In Peggle, the pins are colored pegs that must be cleared out in order to win each round. Peggle Blast differs from previous iterations of the game in that the game now follows a free-to-play model and features powerups that can be added prior to the start of each round.

Peggle fans will be happy to note that the core game of Peggle is the same in Peggle Blast – use marbles to clear out all the orange pegs in each level in order to move on to the next. The main difference is that Peggle Blast includes some pretty interesting new gameplay elements, for example fireballs that can destroy your marbles, exploding pinatas, and even phoenix eggs. All of this makes for a rather interesting game of Peggle, though the goal is still ultimately the same.

Graphically, it’s again the same Peggle game you’ve grown to love. The graphics are still very good, bright, colorful, and fun. The same goes for the music and audio. Peggle fans will be pleased with the whole look and feel of this game.

The only part of Peggle Blast I dislike is the fact that it requires you to connect the game to Facebook and spam your friends in order to gain unlocks from them. These unlocks are used to unlock portions of the game so you can continue. I also do not like the fact that you use up  lives if you don’t complete levels on your first try. If you’re stuck on a particular level, it could take you a while to complete it if you’re waiting for your lives to come back, which can take up to 30 minutes per life. Other than that, Peggle Blast is a great addition to Peggle, though I’m not sure if you want to deal with how they “Candy Crush’d” the gameplay. It’s a fun game to check out, but the free-to-play model may annoy you a bit.
