Sony’s New Project Morpheus Prototype [Video]

This is Sony’s new Project Morhpeus prototype that was shown off this year at the 2015 Game Developers Conference. As you can see, there are numerous slight hardware updates making what was already an attractive VR headset even better. It has a 5.7″ OLED display, 1920×1080 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, built in accelerometer and gyroscope,  positional tracking LEDs, 3D audio output, and HDMI/USB interface. What’s neat is that the whole system was designed to to output video to both the Morpheus and your TV at the same time.

There is still no word on pricing but at least Sony has stated that Project Morpheus is expected to ship in early 2016.

  1. Price will be critical with this device. Not sure I’ve been swayed by what I’ve seen so far though. But of course there is still plenty of time to passively coerce me.

    • I am genuinely curious about VR and how it will enhance the gaming experience. Of course yes, price will be a major factor. The the price of entry is too high, I can live without it.
