Gaming headsets have evolved over the years to the point where the most advanced ones have full Dolby Surround 7.1 sound and feature a completely wireless design. However those headsets can be quite expensive for the average gamer and not worth it if you’re only a casual gamer or spend only a few hours a week gaming. Luckily, SteelSeries makes a headset that is both affordable and feature packed. The new SteelSeries Siberia P300 features immersive sound, a retractable built in mic, and plugs right into your PS4 controller giving it a pseudo wireless setup.
The SteelSeries Siberia P300 is different from every other gaming headset I’ve used in the past and it has to do with the way the headset is designed. Most gaming headsets utilize some sort of manual size adjustment in order to fit a variety of head shapes. While that may be okay for some people, I find it a bit inconvenient that I have to manually resize it every now and then if someone else decides to use my headset or if i collapse it to take it somewhere with me. It usually takes a minute or two to get it sized back to the way you want it.
This is where the SteelSeries Siberia P300 differs. It features a suspension headband design that auto-adjusts the sizing every time you put it on. That means no more manually adjusting them and it also means it will fit my 9 year old just as well as they fit me. You literally to place it on your head and you’re good to go. I’m not entirely sure how it all works, but it does. What amazes me too is just how light and thin the headband is. It’s the thinnest one I’ve used and doesn’t hurt my head at all after long sessions.
Speaking of which, the SteelSeries Siberia P300 is super comfy. This is thanks to the memory foam ear cushions that it uses. The cushions also serve a secondary function of reducing outside noise that could leak into your headset. The combination of the memory foam ear cushions, self-adjusting headband, and the lightweight materials make for one of the most comfortable headsets I’ve ever used. It’s so light and long sessions never make your head feel tired or in pain.
The Steelseries Siberia P300 sound good, very good. Despite them not offering Dolby Surround with these, the 2.0 stereo setup sounds fantastic. Steelseries doesn’t call their sound profile anything special, just that they produce a natural soundscape with powerful bass. Even though these only feature a stereo setup, I swear I can hear every little thing around me. I tested these out recently with several trials playing Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege and it was just amazing to me what I heard. You can hear exactly where all the chatter and footsteps were coming from whether it be down the hall, behind a wall in the next room, or on another floor. It was like really being there and fully immersed in the game. That’s what I look for in a gaming headset. I want something that can clue me in on exactly where my enemies are when I play online and the Steelseries Siberia P300 delivers.
What about online chat you say? For starters, my friends come in loud and clear over the headset. I do have to turn it down a bit in the settings but they sound good with little to no distortion. Also, according to my online buddies, my voice comes in super clear which I guess means the mic on the Siberia P300 is doing its job correctly. I’ve had other headphones where they tell me I sound like I’m talking into a tin can or sound really far away, but not on these.
I really like these Steelseries Siberia P300’s. My normal gaming headset is the Steelseries H-Wireless and as great as those are, the Siberia P300’s are just so dang comfortable when compared to it. These just might be the best set of wired headsets I’ve ever used. The self adjusting band makes it a cinch to fit precisely on any size head and just the way the headband is designed makes it feel so light on your head. If you look over the site, you’ll see that I’ve looked at a lot of headsets and I don’t think I’ve ever come across a set as comfortable as these.
While comfort is important, especially for a gaming headset that some wear for hours at a time, the sound is also very important and the Siberia P300 delivers as promised. The sound on the Siberia P300 is spot on with plenty of bass but it’s not overpowering where that’s all you hear. Audio is crisp, clear, and exact.
With that said, the Steelseries Siberia P300 won’t break your bank and can be found at various online shops for under $120. It’s well worth it for the comfort and with the way these plug into the PS4 controller, you’ll still get a pseudo wireless setup. PS4 gamers who venture online for long stretches will really enjoy these.
