Fans of the indie game Nidhogg should give developer Messhof’s latest game, Flywrench a look. Flywrench is a frenetic action game about piloting an aerobatic ship through the depths of space. Your goal is to make it to the center of the solar system which is much harder than it sounds. What makes it difficult is the fast paced nature of the game and trying to match your ship colors to the colors of the walls that are blocking your path.
The mechanics of the game really aren’t that hard to comprehend, it just takes practice. I highly suggest completing the tutorial and just working your way slowly through each level to get the hang of things. The whole trick to the game is to know when to tap the buttons to change color and how to control your ship’s flapping. Think of this game like a really advanced form of Flappy Birds, but much, much better.
In the rather short playthrough above, I basically go through the tutorial and the entire Pluto world and all the levels included. I didn’t quite understand what to do at first, but you figure it out after the first couple of levels.
Also, the graphics are pretty low tech. It’s mainly made up of lines and reminds me a lot of old Atari games or something. It’s not too bad at all really and helps accentuate the gameplay. Though I know a lot of people are probably not going to like it, but I think it looks neat.
Flywrench is out now on PS4 via the PlayStation Store for $6.99 (USD).
