Disney’s Emoji Blitz is not a new game. In fact, it’s quite an old game that I had on one of my older phones and completely forgot about it after swapping to so many different devices. However, I recently picked it back up again because my wife and our kids started to play it and I figured I needed something new to play. I’m glad I did because it’s actually pretty fun and challenging and a very good example of a quality match-3 style puzzle game despite some tiny issues.

In regards to the match-3 side of things, Disney’s Emoji Blitz is a solid puzzler. All the essentials to a good match-3 game are here. There are power-up bonuses for matching 4 or more emojis are present. Match 4, get a lightning cloud that can clear a vertical or horizontal line. Match 5 emojis in an L pattern and get a sun that can clear both a vertical and horizontal line at once. Match 5 in a row and get a star that can be used to clear all of the same emojis that it touches. You can even charge up a “blitz” meter that when filled up will enter you into Blitz Mode that increases your score while activated. All of this makes for a very solid game.

Next up are the emojis. You start with 1 emoji but can collect more as time goes on. New emojis will cost you coins that you gain while playing or gems that again must be earned. Each emoji has its own unique powers so it’s best to know what they do before starting a game. A majority of them have special emoji clearing properties while other can increase amount of coins you gain or the amount of points you gain while activated. There are tons of emojis to collect and if you’re a completionist, you’ll want to try and unlock all the emojis.

Aside from your standard match-3 rules, there are also an item collection mini game while playing. Collecting these items while playing will give you a random reward such as extra coins, gems, power-ups, or lives. There’s also a free prize spinner that also gives you random rewards, but this is a timed unlock. You can also level up your emojis to be more effective while also leveling up your own profile for higher blitz bonus scores. Every weekend, there’s also special events that have proven to be quite fun, despite some of their difficulty in actually completing them.

While Disney’s Emoji Blitz is incredibly fun, there are some tiny issues I have with it. First off, you only get 5 lives that you can pretty much eat threw in about 5-6 minutes. After which you have to wait for what seems like a really long time before your hears replenish. Second, it takes FOREVER to gain gems. You need gems to unlock some exclusive diamond box emojis as well as skipping challenges that might prove to be too difficult to complete.

Despite these little issues, it’s hard to put Disney’s Emoji Blitz down when you start. It’s very fun and like I said before, a solid example of a match-3 game that will keep you coming back for more.
