I’m a firm believer that there is no perfect bag. Instead I believe that there is a perfect bag for specific occasions and that a perfect bag really means multiple bags that fit into your life and what life throws at you. For instance, you wouldn’t carry a camping bag to go to the office with and there absolutely no reason to carry your laptop bag if you’re just going down the street to pick something up at the store. That’s why I have multiple bags, each for a specific purpose. The Chrome Industries Kadet Sling Bag fills a very specific need and ends up replacing a couple bags in my rotation. This is a very versatile bag that is not too small and not too large but is perfect for the role I’ve given it.
Basically, this new Kadet Sling Bag the the place of a waist pack (fanny pack) and a small backpack. Either of these I would have used on a day outing depending on the amount of stuff I needed to carry, but this combines the utility of both in a lightweight package I can just sling around my back.
Let’s start with a waist pack. I loved these because they were small and you could just carry your essentials, like your wallet, keys, phone, sunglasses, etc. Just small things. But then you were also limited when you has some larger items you had to carry. That’s where a backpack would come in which you could carry all the small stuff, but also something extra like a jacket or water bottle. The only problem here is that sometimes a backpack is still too big and bulky if you’re just carrying slightly larger items.
Well, that’s where this Chrome Industries Kadet Sling Bag comes to save the day. Like I said above, it’s larger than a waist pack but smaller than a backpack. That means it’ll carry all your small items as well as a some larger items. You can fit a water bottle in it, a Nintendo Switch, a rolled up jacket, or even a small umbrella. This makes for a much better day trip / outing pack and it’s small enough and light enough where your back and shoulders won’t start to sweat like with a backpack. Not only that, with just one strap, it makes it easier to swivel around your body so if you need something, just swivel to the front and when you don’t, swivel it back to your back. No need to take it off like you would a backpack.
In terms of pockets, the main compartment has a sectioned off area that could hold a smaller tablet as well a section that looks like it’s meant to hold pens or a stylus. There’s also a little hook inside I”m assuming that meant for keys. Onm the outside, there’s another zippered pocket that you can user for holding your phone or other items you need to get to quickly.
Aside from the overall utility the Kadet Sling Bag provides, this thing just looks plain cool, which is typical Chrome Industries standard. It’s got that Chrome Industries iconic seat belt buckle strap design with built-in bottle opener, a well padded shoulder strap, and lots of size adjustability. Like always, the Kadet Sling is also made of military grade nylon.
The Chrome Industries Kadet Sling Bag is currently available in just black, but occasionally other colors are released, such as this navy blue version shown i nth review. You just have to check back on their site for limited time color options and designs. The Kadet Sling will set you back around $90, but it’s worth it if you want something really cool looking and versatile. This is basically now my daily bag when I go “adventuring” with the family or even when just hanging around town.
