I’m sure most of you have a preconceived notion of what a mouse should look like and for the most part, you’d be right. Mouse designs haven’t changed much over the decades with the same basic shape and button layouts we’re accustomed too. Over the past few years though, we’re starting to see some unique takes on the traditional mouse, such as VictSing’s Wireless Ergonomic Vertical Mouse. While offering the same functionality as a traditional mouse, the ergonomics of it are very different and we’ll explain how.
What makes the VictSing Wireless Ergonomic Vertical Mouse different is the way in which you hold it. Most mice are held with your palm down in a horizontal position. This supposedly can cause muscle strain over long periods of time due to the twisting of your arm and muscles. The VicTsing Wireless Ergonomic Vertical Mouse moves to fix this by allowing your hand to rest in a more natural position with your palms to the side. Think of it like grabbing a flight stick, but it’s a mouse.
The VictSing Wireless Ergonomic Vertical Mouse has a very unique shape. It kind of looks like a regular mouse but turned on its side with an extension protruding out of the bottom of it. Think of it like a sock puppet, but just the head part. Gripping the mouse seems very comfortable and natural and your gingers do seem to fall where they need to be. You still use the same fingers for left and right mouse clicks as well as the scroll wheel. This design also allows your thumb to naturally rest on where they place the two thumb shortcuts on the mouse.
Starting with the left and right mouse buttons, these seem to have a really soft touch to them and they make barely any sounds when clicked. In fact, these might be the quietest mouse buttons I’ve ever encountered. Under the scroll wheel which sits between the left and right buttons, you also get a DPI switch that allows you to switch between 800/1200/1600 DPI.
The thumb buttons are mainly there as forward and back buttons while browsing the web. They can’t really be programmed for anything else as the mouse doesn’t have custom drivers.
The VictSing Wireless Ergonomic Vertical Mouse also includes its own wireless receiver that you will need to plug into your computer in order to use the mouse. You’ll also need to supply a AA battery as this is not a rechargeable mouse. Installation is simple plug-n-play and again, there is no software for you to install.
In terms of actual usage, the VictSing Wireless Ergonomic Vertical Mouse isn’t much different from a regular mouse. It functions just like a regular mouse and doesn’t take long to get used to. The main difference is how you hold on to it.
For the most part, it’s very comfortable and I dare say a bit more comfortable than some regular mice. The soft-touch coating on the mouse helps with the comfort although I’m not sure how well it’ll hold up over time.
There is an on and off switch on the mouse so you can conserve battery if you know you aren’t going to use the mouse for long periods of time. The mouse though does have a power saver mode where it will enter sleep after 8 minutes if it doesn’t detect any movement. You will need to press a button to wake the mouse up after, to use it again.
There are some downsides I see with the VictSing Wireless Ergonomic Vertical Mouse, however. For starters, it’s pretty large so it’s not as portable as a standard mouse. Second, it requires the use of a battery. Having a rechargeable unit might have been a better choice, but at least the AA battery is convenient to just swap out. Lastly, the mouse doesn’t just pair via Bluetooth. You have to use the included dongle which if you plan on using this on multiple machines, it’s kind of a hassle.
If you’ve been experiencing fatigue or pains in your wrists or arms while using a mouse, you might want to check out something like the VictSing Wireless Ergonomic Vertical Mouse. From my time using it, it really is a very comfortable mouse to use and fits very well in your hands. It doesn’t take very long to get used to and you’ll be using it as a regular mouse in no time.
