Published by Mobius Games and developed by indie developer eXiin, their latest game, Ary and the Secret of Seasons, is a family-friendly open-world action-adventure game. It’s very reminiscent of games in the Zelda series or Disney style adventures and made for a younger audience.
Ary and the Secret of Seasons follow the journey of a young girl named Ary across the magnificent world of Valdi. To the surprise of many, Ary has joined the Guardians of Seasons, an organization traditionally ruled by men. Her task: successfully restore the seasons of Valdi. With strength, determination, and self-control as her pillars, Ary will set out to accomplish a feat no other guardian has ever managed.
As an action-adventure game, there are lots of elements that keep the game interesting and fun. We’re talking about real-time combat, environmental puzzling elements, and lots of quests. Not only that, but there’s also a rather deep story included with high quality animated cut scenes. The cut scenes are actually very Disney-esque and if I didn’t know any better, I’d think this was a Disney game.
Aside from that, Ary’s ability is what makes the game so unique. As you progress through the game, you are able to use spheres of seasons to change the environmental conditions on the fly. The spheres can be opened up three at a time; thus, Ary can jump from winter to summer to autumn in a single leap. This allows for an incredible range of possibilities for amazing environmental puzzles and innovative gameplay. It’s her ability to control the seasons that really open up this game.
With that said, Ary and the Secret of Seasons is a fun little game that all ages can enjoy. I give it high marks for what appears to be an excellent story as well as a really bright and colorful environment that invites exploration. Combat isn’t terrible difficult which makes it a bit easier for younger players while the use of season changing spheres is a unique touch that adds a bit of challenge to the puzzling elements. Overall, Ary and the Secret of Seasons is a well-rounded game that has all the elements of a great action-adventure. If this is your type of jam or you have kids who enjoy this type of game, then Ary and the Secret of Season is right up your alley and worth a look.
