S.N.I.P.E.R. Hunter Scope for Nintendo Switch | Review

S.N.I.P.E.R. Hunter Scope

The Nintendo eShop is filled with some indie gems you would never think of downloading until they pop up for free one day. S.N.I.P.E.R. Hunter Scope by Baltoro Games is one such game. Having owned another Baltoro game in the past (Urban Flow), I was able to pick up S.N.I.P.E.R. Hunter Scope when it was released, for free. I’m glad I did because this game is loads of fun, especially for those who were fans of Hitman Sniper and any cover shooter game.

S.N.I.P.E.R. Hunter Scope is an action game that will feel like you’re playing two games at once. The first part of the game is a sniper shooter where you sit back on a rooftop and pick off enemies as they appear. This isn’t a stealthy shooter though as enemies know where you are and will fire at you if you take too long to take them out. You have to be quick in this section as you only have a limited amount of health to complete the level. You can pick up powerups such as grenades, night vision, and extra health.

The second part of the game is a cover shooter on rails. This section is on rails and you follow a predetermined path. You start in cover behind an object and can come out of cover to shoot your enemies. If you stay out of cover too long or don’t finish off the enemies quickly enough, they will fire back and cause damage to you. Cover each time you need to reload or aim so you won’t lose as much health. Killing enemies in each section moves you to the next section.

In terms of gameplay, it’s pretty fun. I like that there are two different game types in S.N.I.P.E.R. Hunter Scope and it helps keep things interesting. Switching it up adds variety. There are also different weapons you can use and unlock, though you’ll need in-game currency to unlock more weapons. You earn this as you play. Currency takes a bit to earn however so some of the more expensive upgrades will take time to unlock.

What is neat is that if you’re using Joy-cons, you can enable gyro controls for slightly more accurate aiming. You can even use third-party rifle controller attachments.

Graphically, the game looks pretty good. There’s a distinct, cartoon-like feel to the game where characters have a slightly cartoonish look to them. Most of the levels are pretty detailed and colorful and I do like how it all looks and feels.

S.N.I.P.E.R. Hunter Scope

S.N.I.P.E.R. Hunter Scope is a very fun game that is relatively inexpensive to pick up. The action in it is non-stop and enemy locations change each time you play on each level. Speaking of which, there are 16 levels to play plus two additional if you get the DLC. There are also 30+ weapons to unlock and a ton of achievements you can strive for. With that said, S.N.I.P.E.R. Hunter Scope is a fun action game you can really get into quickly. There’s no story involved in the game, but sometimes you just want a game that’s pure action and nothing more.

S.N.I.P.E.R. Hunter Scope is available now on the Nintendo eShop.
