Brawl Stars is 3v3 Perfection | Mobile Review

Brawl Stars

Brawl Stars is a 3v3 multiplayer, battle royal style game for mobile that you can enjoy either by yourself or with friends. There are multiple game modes to choose from and over a dozen characters to unlock and collect. Each has its own special abilities and each can be upgraded to become more powerful.

Brawl Stars is not a new game, but it’s a very popular game from the makers of Clash Royale and Clash of Clans. The reason I started playing it was because of my kids as they needed a third player to join their team and I figured, why not? I’m always looking for fun games I can play with them.

So there are a variety of different modes you can play, although you have to unlock these modes as you progress. The case mode is 3v3 Gem Grab in which both teams’ objective is to secure ten gems. Each player can hold gems and when the total number becomes ten, you go into a countdown phase. If you can hold the ten gems during the countdown, you win. If you lose your gems, the game continues until another team gets ten gems again. Other modes you can unlock include Showdown, Brawl Ball, Bounty, Heist, and Special Events. Brawl Ball is fun and it’s like soccer while Showdown is more like a traditional deathmatch mode.

Not all the game modes are available to you from the beginning as there are conditions that need to be met first. Mainly, you need to gain trophies by winning, but it takes a lot of trophies to unlock all the modes so find yourself a good team and get to know the characters you’re playing.

Aside from trophies, there’s other forms of currency that can be collected. There are tokens that are used for the Brawl Pass that can also unlock items as you gain more and more. There are Star Points used to buy exclusive items, Coins used to upgrade your brawlers, and Gems that are used to buy loot boxes. You can gain all of these as you play, or you can choose to buy some using real world money.

My favorite part though is that Brawl Stars doesn’t take much for even casual players to get into. Its simple mechanics make is really easy and I love that most matches are fairly quick. This is one of those games that you can play at your leisure.

Brawl Stars is a really fun game. It reminds me a lot of something like Overwatch on console, but more simplified for mobile. I love the variety in characters and arenas and the multiplayer modes are fun and varied. Since this is a free-to-play game though, be aware that there are in-app purchases so you’ll want to keep that in mind if you have kids you’re playing with. I’m playing it with zero in-apps so we’ll see how that goes. But so far, I haven’t had the need or urge to purchase anything. With that said, Brawl Stars is definitely a great game to check out if you’re looking for some classic 3v3 action. +
