THE KING OF FIGHTERS ’98 ULTIMATE MATCH FINAL EDITION

The King of Fighters ’98 Ultimate Match Final Edition is not a new game and was released way back in 2014 on Steam. Developed by SNK, King of Fighters ’98 Ultimate Match Final Edition (KOF ’98 UM FE) is meant to be the final version of one of the best installments of the King of Fighters franchise. The version of the game boasts many updates and improvements along with a couple new modes, more characters, and online play. Not only that, the current version just got a major update which includes a Netcode overhaul, new Online Lobbies that can hold up to nine players, and a new spectator mode.

KOF ’98 UM FE has several different modes of play. One of them is the original Neo Geo version of KOF ’98. This is basically the full version of the game in its original form when it first came out. This is for the nostalgic players out there who want to relive their childhood and remember what they loved about the game. The other modes are centered around the new updated version of KOF ’98. These modes include Arcade Play, Single Play, Endless, Challenge, and Online.

Most likely, you’ll stick to these new modes as they include the seven new fighters, online, and a remastered soundtrack.

Aside from the new updates, if you’re a King of Fighters fan or even a Street Fighter fan, you’ll most likely really love this game. I know that fighting games always have loyal fans and if you’re a fan of one, you might not be a fan of another. For instance, I have never really been a fan of the MK series or any fighting game built off the same engine, mainly because I’ve never liked their control setup. On the other hand, I’ve always been a Street Fighter fan and KOF games have generally been quite similar with similar controls, which is why I also liked KOF games too.

What I’m trying to say is if you’ve always been a fan, then you’re going to enjoy this. If not, then you won’t. Regardless, the fighting and the controls are both solid and tight and this game is pretty much everything that I loved about fighting games back in the ’90s – great graphics, interesting characters, and a good variety of fighting styles.

So is The King of Fighters ’98 Ultimate Match Final Edition a purchase in 2021? Well, if it’s one of the best versions of the game, then why not? A lot of these classic fighting games never get old and many of them have aged quite well. This is one of them. That and consider the fact that this is two games in one – the classic game and the updated game. With tons of characters to choose from and a fighting system that is still really good, The King of Fighters ’98 Ultimate Match Final Edition is a game that fighting fans will continue to enjoy long after purchase.
