There are all different kinds of headphones out there that range from inexpensive to exorbitant as well as those that are of poor quality to those that will last you a lifetime. We’ve seen a whole range of them here and today we’re looking at one that is at the upper echelon of the scale. The V-Moda Crossfade 2 Wireless Codex Edition are luxury headphones built with a reputation of high-quality and engineering know-how from Roland. These aren’t just ordinary Crossfade 2 Wireless Codex Editions though, as these are designed in collaboration with Susan G. Komen. Aside from that, these are still the same V-Moda Crossfade 2 Wireless Codex Edition many have come to love.
The V-Moda Crossfade 2 Wireless Codex Edition is not a new headphone. In fact, the original Crossfade 2 Wireless came out in 2017 with the Codex Edition update arriving the year after in 2018. Since then, V-Moda has released a newer M-200 ANC edition as well as the Hexamove Pro, but the availability of the V-Moda Crossfade 2 Wireless Codex Edition still goes to show just how good these are and that they still remain competitive in the market. Not only that, five years later and the design still looks superb and modern when compared to a lot of the newer headphones coming out today.
Speaking of the design, the V-Moda Crossfade 2 Wireless Codex Edition is still unlike anything that’s out there right now. It’s got a very angular design that you see in many of the design elements. There are the pointed tips at the end of the headband, the hexagonal ear cups, and angular ear cup holders, and even the padding on the ear cups are hexagonally shaped. The buttons are also very angular and all of this gives the V-Moda Crossfade 2 Wireless Codex Edition that unique look.
The quality of the materials also helps elevate these beyond the norm. The headband consists of a metal core wrapped in some kind of leather-like material. It’s also padded underneath with memory foam for comfort and capped off with some really nice chrome accents. The hardware for the earcup holders is of thick metal with some really heavy-duty hinges. They’re finished off in a matte silver color and accented with little hex bolts for that industrial look. The padding on the ear cups is also memory foam and wrapped in the same leather-like material.
You’ll notice that on the Susan G. Komen editions, the plate on the ear cups is pink with the prink ribbon etched into them It matches up well to the white and grey colors of the rest of the headphones.
Lastly, I love the way these headphones fold up into such a compact package. Additionally, these also include a really attractive and tough carrying case that holds the headphones and extra cables that can be easily clipped to a bag for travel.
FEATURES AND EXPERIENCE
The V-Moda Crossfade 2 Wireless Codex Edition are pretty much the same as the regular Crossfade 2 Wireless except for the addition of additional Bluetooth audio codecs, Qualcomm aptX and AAC. That means they still feature powerful 50mm, dual-diaphragm drivers, with CCAW voice coils, and Hi-Res Audio when using the wired cable.
Battery life is still a healthy 14 hours between charges and unlimited use while wired. You can also pair these headphones to multiple devices.
So what do we like about the V-Moda Crossfade 2 Wireless Codex Edition? For starters, these things are super comfortable. They’re lightweight and the memory foam cushions keep contact points from hurting. I also appreciate the physical controls on the ear cups as it does make them easier to handle. I also really love that these are very form-fitting to your head, creating a lower profile. Other headphones stick out way too much. These don’t.
In terms of sound quality, they sound amazing. When it comes to personal audio, not much can beat a good pair of headphones and these are some of the best you can buy. The highs are super crisp and the bass is deep and punchy. I tried these with a variety of different music genres and it handled everything I threw at it like a champ. All the audio was clean with zero distortion.
Now, the V-Moda Crossfade 2 Wireless Codex Edition isn’t 100% perfect though as there are a couple of little nitpicks here and there. For starters, there’s no ANC (active noise canceling), especially in this day and age when even cheaper headphones than this have it included. The V-Moda M-200 ANC fixes this, but that thing is nearly $200 more. There’s also the fact that these still use the old micro-USB charging ports instead of the newer USB-C standard.
Other than these, the V-Moda Crossfade 2 Wireless Codex Edition is near perfect still in terms of look, comfort, and sound quality.
Stacked up against what’s out now, the V-Moda Crossfade 2 Wireless Codex Edition still holds up quite well today. They still look very modern and luxurious with sound quality that matches their stature. If I could compare these to anything else that’s out in the wild, I’d say they’re similar to those really expensive Vertu smartphones. They have a similar look, but luckily these don’t cost thousands of dollars. I’m actually pretty impressed with the build quality of the headphones and the sound quality.
There also seems to be a wide variety of different color combos and special edition collaborations. It should mention though that with the V-Moda Crossfade 2 Codex Edition x Susan G. Komen, 30% of the sales price of each pair will go toward the fight against breast cancer. These are available only directly through V-Moda.
