Most computers and laptops these days come with Wi-Fi built-in, but if you have an older device that might not have Wi-Fi or one that still has a modem with older tech, then there’s a simple way to upgrade. All you need is something like the Plugable USB-WIFIAX USB 3.0 Wi-Fi 6 Adaptor to give your laptop or computer a new life and a faster connection.
For starters, there isn’t much to talk about in terms of design. It basically just looks like a USB thumb drive that can be opened up and extended for greater surface area. It does have some neat patterns on it giving it a little bit of style, but for the most part, there isn’t much to look at.
The Plugable USB-WIFIAX can be plugged in directly to your laptop or PC or can be docked with the included docking cradle, which then plugs into your PC or laptop. It’s up to you which way you want to connect it. Plugable does state though that the cradle can help reduce interference with other ports on your computer, so if you are having issues with interference, you might want to try using the docking cradle.
I should also point out that the Plugable USB-WIFIAX isn’t entirely just plug-and-play as you will need to download the drivers for it first, which can be found here.
Once that’s done, using it is as simple as plugging it into your laptop or PC, and then connecting to your wireless network. You’ll be able to make use of 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz connections. It is compliant with IEEE 802.11 ax/ac/a/b/g/n standards. For the most part, it actually works pretty well. I was able to use it on a slightly older laptop and the connection speeds were pretty good.
Overall, most people might not really need something like the Plugable USB-WIFIAX USB 3.0 Wi-Fi 6 Adaptor, but for those that do, it works pretty well. It’s a simple way to get Wi-Fi on an aging PC or laptop and one that is pretty inexpensive as well.
