Falling Leaves Studio, a young French indie developer based in Bordeaux, has released its first game, MyDear.exe — an interactive love letter from a husband to his wife, celebrating their life together through minigames and puzzles.
You play as Ellie, exploring the game her husband Lucien made as a tribute to their long life together, inside the folders of an old PC. It’s a short, heartwarming story told through a fake Windows XP-inspired interface, with humour, memories, and love throughout.
- Foldervania exploration: A nonlinear take on Metroidvania exploration, set inside a fake retro operating system that’s meant to be easy for everyone to pick up and understand.
- Memories: Letters, pictures, notes, and other souvenirs tell the story of Ellie and Lucien, who loved each other unconditionally for 57 years.
- Silly minigames: Retro-inspired minigames based on the characters and other classic games.
- Puzzles: Password puzzles, each using a different way to decrypt them.
- Fully voiced: Ellie discovers the game with Lucien right by her side, and their loving interactions are voiced to bring out their personalities.
- Short experience: A roughly 2-hour game, made to be finished in an afternoon.
