This Week’s ModNation Racers Creations: DC Comics Edition – 08.06.10

This week’s creations focus on DC Comic characters. I know last week I made several Marvel characters but I figured I switch it up from week to week. I tried to make a few lesser known DC characters this week as well as some well known ones. The more I play around with the ModNation Racers character creator, the more I discover little tricks here and there on how to make certain pieces of each character’s costume that I wouldn’t have know what to do earlier. With lots of these superheroes however, the main thing is to get a good base color down first and work from there. All of these characters this week are made from scratch and all their costumes had to be made from layers and layers of stickers. No pre-made clothing.

We’ll start this off with Captain Marvel, the worlds mightiest mortal. He was made completely from scratch and does not start off from a preexisting character that I had already made. As with my other superhero creations thus far, I had to make Captain Marvel’s costume completely from scratch using layers and layers of stickers. Again you can not see his cape because ModNation doesn’t allow you to change the sizing of the cape which is a shame and something I hope they may consider changing in the future.

Here we have the Flash. He’s always been one of my more favorite characters from the DC Universe so it was just a matter of time before I made him. The head portion does borrow some work I did with Captain America from last week but everything else had to be made. The lightning bolt portions of the Flash’s costume was a big pain in the butt to make but in the end, it came out decent enough.

This is the Green Lantern, specifically the Hal Jordan version of Green Lantern. His costume wasn’t terribly hard to make at all and most of it just required simple shapes layered on top of each other. I did have a tad bit of trouble on the mask which came out OK, but I’m still not 100% certain I got it right and might go back and fix it up a little.

I figured since I made the Hal Jordan version of Green Lantern, I might as well make the John Stewart version of Green Lantern. I just slightly modified the original Hal Jordan version. Obviously changed his skin color and rearranged portions of his costume. This modified Green Lantern took about 15 minutes since I used many of the same elements from Hal Jordan.

I decided to make the Teen Titan version of Robin from the animated series. That means that this is the original Robin, Dick Grayson. Again, not to hard here as he uses many basic shapes to make. His cape sucks though as I’ve stated before, ModNation has a crappy cape that is way too small.

Last up here is Captain Atom. I decided to make him because I wanted to try out some different materials effects so since he is all shiny and chrome like, that’s what I tried to make him as. As you can see, he’s pretty shiny and reflective, although upon showing this to one of my friends, he said he looked like he made one of those cellophane blow up balloons. He does.

Well, that’s it for this week’s ModNation Racers Creations. I can only crank out about 1 or 2 a day depending on the difficulty of the character. Next week, I will be on hiatus as I will not be around to make any mods so there will be no update next week, but we will be back the following week.

Again, you will be able to grab all these characters from the ModNation download station. Just look for my PSN id (samversionone) when you do a search.
