Appular is on a roll with the number of games they’ve released this year and it shows no sign of stopping. Neo Defender 2 is the latest game from them and developer MeYuMe. Neo Defender 2 is a retro-style arcade shooter with a style similar to Geometry Wars but with its own unique take on it.
Unlike other games of this type, your ship is stationary. It does not move. Instead, your turrets rotate to shoot incoming enemies. this helps you focus more on the enemies and less with having to also deal with moving. This makes it a bit easier than something like Geometry Wars but still offers up a challenge based on the sheer number of enemies thrown at you.
In Neo Defender 2, your ship sits in the middle of the playing area. Enemies come at you from all sides so you must stay on your toes. What makes this game unique is that you not only can shoot enemies in one direction, but you can shoot at them from 2 directions. Your turret can split in two allowing you cover more area. With all the enemies that come at you, this makes for some pretty hectic gameplay that can be very fun and exciting. The only problem I ran into with this method of play and it’s not really the game’s fault is that when using 2 fingers to play, I can not see what is on the screen sometimes because my finger is blocking it. This is mainly an issue with the touch screen itself and not the game.
Graphically, Neo Defender 2 is very simplistic. It mainly consists of colorful geometrical shapes of different sizes and colors. Shooting them causes them to explode into little particles or smaller shapes. It’s nothing fancy but sometimes simplicity is best.
In the end, Neo Defender 2 is a satisfying game with all the makings of a classic. It’s fun, challenging, and the simplistic controls make it so that anyone can just pick it up and play. This is one of those games that you can pick up at anytime to play a few rounds and you don’t have to worry about things like unlocking levels or maps. It’s just a fun game about trying to get the highest score possible.

Thanks for the review 🙂 Just wanted to post and say that the problem with the fingers covering the screen is much less with the iPad version – the iPad version also has all the high res art work, and some additional attacker types.

Yeah. It’s the smaller screen on the iPhone and big thumbs that get in the way. It’s no fault of the game at all though. Just the screen size.
