TGWK’s Review of “Inspector Gadget’s MAD Dash” v1.0 (iOS)

Inspector Gadget’s MAD Dash is the latest game from developer XMG Studio. The game is heavily based on the original 80’s cartoon of the same name and features Inspector Gadget, Penny, their dog Brain, and Dr. Claw. In the game, Dr. Claw has kidnapped Penny and it’s up to the good old Inspector to save her with the occasional help from Brain.

Inspector Gadget’s MAD Dash is a side-scrolling “running” type game where the object of the game is to see how far you can get and how high of a score you can earn. It’s an endless game where you basically just skate, jump, and grapple your way until you run out of lives.

The game is very easy to get into as the controls are very simple to learn. Inspector Gedget continuously moves right on his own so you don’t need to worry about motion. All you need to worry about is jumping, swinging and gliding. You tap on the screen to jump and hold your thumb down to jump higher. To swing , you also tap on the screen once you are below some hooks to engage your Gadget arms and to glide, you hold your thumb down to engage your Gadget umbrella. Everything is simple enough that you can play Inspector Gadget’s MAD Dash one handed. As simple as the game is though, it still is very challenging to play and it’ll take a decent amount of concentration get a really high score.

Since this is an endless game, you never really save Penny. Inspector Gadget just skates along rooftops collecting coins and avoiding death. The coins you collect are used to increase your score multiplier and are also used to unlock bonus content in the game such as art work, sounds for the sound board, and pages in the comic book. What I will say though is that the amount of coins you need to collect to unlock these are ridiculously high. It would take you forever to unlock most of these on your own from just playing the game. You can get free coins by downloading other apps in the App Store that XMG Studio has listed. Most are free, some are not. It’s not a bad way to get you to try other apps, but I’m not really a fan of it and hope maybe in a future update, they would decrease the amount of coins needed to unlock stuff.

Other than that, Inspector Gadget’s MAD Dash is a fun casual game that will have you scrambling to beat your highest score. It’s Game Center enhanced so you can compare score with your friends as well as unlock achievements for bragging rights.

Inspector Gadget’s MAD Dash is available now in he App Store for $1.99. It works on all iOS device with OS 3.1 and later.
