Create Math Robot is an educational children’s game from developer Mobydickism. I happened upon this game by accident in the App Store as I’m always looking for educational, yet fun games for my son to play. Create Math Robot caught my attention because of the fact that my son could create his own robot and battle monsters with math. It seemed like a cool concept but would he enjoy it?

Short answer, yes and no. You see, the game itself is very, very short. Basically all you do in the game is create a robot, have it fight with a monster until all five of its health points are gone, and that’s it. After that, you start the process over again. There is no increasing difficulty of monsters to battle or anything like that. You just fight one monster each time.

There are quite a bit of robots you can build which in itself is pretty entertaining. You get to choose legs, body, head, and face features. You can mix and match any combination with various degrees of hilarity if you really go crazy with it. My son had a lot of fun with this portion of the game. The portion he didn’t really have fun with was the math portion.

The problem with the math portion is that there is no degrees of difficulty. They kind of throw everything into the mix. There is addition, subtraction, and even multiplication. If your child doesn’t know how to do either portion of these, they’ll get frustrated fast. However, with a little help, they should figure it out in no time. I would still like to see a choice though of what kind of math skills you want your child to practice instead of throwing them all together.

Create Math Robot is a free game so I do recommend that you try it out sine there is really nothing to lose from downloading. Your child will enjoy the robot building portion but the math battle portion really depends on your child.
