TGWK’s Review of “FX Photo Studio” v3.1.0 (iPhone)

FX Photo Studio is an image processing app from developer Macphun. The app allows you to apply photographic effects to your images in order to creatively manipulate the way they look. The app includes over 180 different photo effects that you can apply which is probably the most I’ve ever seen on an app of this type on the iPhone. What makes FX Photo Studio different too is that not only can you apply any one of the effects to your photo, you can apply multiple effects to any given photo thus making the possibilities almost limitless.

If you’ve already read our review of FX Photo Studio HD, much of it applies to the iPhone version of the app with the exception of a few differences here and there. For starters, because the iPhone screen is much smaller, elements of the user interface are broken up into different screens. Viewing the image and viewing all the filters are separated so you don’t get that nice filter preview like you get on the iPad. That’s the main difference. The other difference here is that the iPhone version allows you to take a photo directly with the camera which the iPad version does not.

Other than that, the iPhone version does everything the iPad version does. It has the same 181 different filters and effects, the same ability to apply multiple filters on any given image, and the ability to share those photos to your favorite social networking sites.

FX Photo Studio is very easy to use and you can manipulate photos quickly with just a few taps of the screen and just like the iPad version, you’ll also be able to crop and resize your images as well.

If you own an iPad and an iPhone 4, FX Photo Studio would be a great app to have on either device. It all depends on which you would end up doing more editing on. The iPad version allows you to do everything all on one screen and if you own the iPad 2, its a bit faster too. However, most of you will probably be taking more photos with your iPhone so for the sake of convenience, the iPhone version would be better. Either way, the do pretty much the same thing so you can’t go wrong with whatever version you choose. You can get the iPhone version for $1.99 while the iPad version costs $4.99 normally. The price may be a big factor when choosing which version to get considering they both do pretty much the same things.

FX Photo Studio is available now in the App Store for $1.99. Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 3.0 or later.
