ROBOT 99 is a fun casual game from Fu-Design. The premise of ROBOT 99 is simple. Robots fall out of the sky and you must save them before they meet their unfortunate doom. You do so by clicking them so that they will release their parachute. After they touch down, they rocket off into the air. If they land before their chute opens, you can still tap on them to send them rocketing off, however you have a greater chance of them meeting their doom.
Controls in ROBOT 99 are easy to master. All you have to do is tap on each robot to open their chute. Tapping on a robot continuously yields higher score bonuses and because the app is multitouch enabled, you can do this to more than one robot at a time. You can also drag your robots around the screen to move them away from other falling robots. This is necessary sometimes because if if two robots collide with each other in the air, it will cancel out their chute and case them to land without blasting off again. If you want to speed things along, you can drag robots into the “POWERIZONA” area where they will immediately touch down at high speeds and take right back off again. This is probably the best strategy as it allows you to really speed the game up. You can also drag and hold robots in this area for a huge score bonus. The longer you hold them there, the higher the score will be.
The art style in the game is very good with all illustrations done by the creator, Keng-Fu Chu. The illustrations are very bright and colorful with lots of detail. I also like the fact that the artist has created 99 different robots for the game so with most games that you’ll play, you’ll never really see the same robot twice, with the exception of the first-aid robot.
There are 6 different level you can play on. One is open at the start of the game and as you gain points, you’ll unlock the other 5 levels. You’ll be happy to know that it really doesn’t take very long to unlock all 6 levels especially once you figure out how to achieve high scores.
The only negative of this game is that it needs more levels to play on. With only 6 levels, the game can seem a bit short and hopefully with future updates, the developer will add more levels of play.
ROBOT 99 is a fast paced casual game that is easy to pick up and easy to play. If you’re on an iPhone, its a fun game to just play on your breaks as each game really isn’t that long depending on how good you are. If you’re on an iPad, the larger playing space allows you to have friends join in and help you since the game features multitouch. The action can get frantic especially with a lot of robots falling down at once but its a great way to exercise your hand eye coordination. ROBOT 99 also has the advantage of being a universal app, meaning you only need to buy it one time to enjoy it on your iPhone or iPad.
ROBOT 99 is available now in the App Store for $0.99. It is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iOS 3.1 or later. Universal App.
