Bee Brave v1.0.0 for iOS Review [TheGamerWithKids.com]

Bee Brave is a  game from developer MobileSoftJungle. I’m not really sure what genre of gaming this belongs in but it’s a combination of quick reactions, item collection, and enemy avoidance. It’s hard to explain unless you get a chance to play it. You play as Bee, a lonely insect that has been blown away far from his home. You must travel through dangerous lands in order to get back home. On the way, you’ll be collecting pollen from flowers while avoiding enemies like other insects, chameleons, and natural dangers like tumbleweeds and tornado. Collect enough flowers and you’ll move on to the next level.

Controlling Bee at first wasn’t what I expected. I thought I would have to drag him around the screen to move him, but in actuality, you move him around the screen like you would on a virtual control pad (that you don’t see) and he moves according to the direction you move your thumb. It sort of works, though your thumb ends up blocking about 1/4 of the screen sometimes making it difficult to see some of the dangers. Bee moves around the screen collecting mainly flowers for their pollen. You need to collect enough to fill up a jar to move on. Enemies appear around you that you need to either avoid or you can destroy them with bug spray cans or dynamite. It seems like an easy game, but it’s not. Each level starts off fairly innocently, but the difficulty ramps up quickly making it difficult sometimes to collect all the flowers you need. Even at the easiest difficulty setting, it can still be a challenging game to play.

Bee Brave is a challenging game even though it’s very casual. There are different levels you can play, but most of them just feel the same to me, just with different dangers to avoid. It can be a fun little game, but does grow tiresome after a while as there really aren’t any other real challenges to it besides trying to complete each level. If you have quick hands though and good reactions, you should have no problems completing each level as long as you stay focused on your task.

Bee Brave is available now in the App Store for $0.99. It is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation) and iPad.Requires iOS 4.2 or later.
