Paper Galaxy v1.01 for iOS Review

papergalaxy_iconPaper Galaxy from Liquid Entertainment is an endless jumping style game, but with its own unique take on the genre with an interesting story line. In the game, you play as Luna, a lost moon with a cold. You’re trying to make your way back to your home planet but you’re being chased by the Crab Nebula. Help Luna find her way back by sneezing your way from planet to planet, all of which are also helping poor Luna reach her destination. Don’t get caught by the Crab Nebula however or you’ll never get back home.

Gameplay is fairly simple. Luna travels in a straight line until she reaches the orbit of a planet. From there, she will circle around it until you tap the screen again which will allow Luna to travel in a different direction. You’ll want to aim for other planets however or you’ll find yourself just floating out into empty space until she eventually reaches a planet that happens to be nearby. You don’t really want to do this however at it will cost you time and wasted opportunities to collect stars.

However, you also don’t want to go randomly jumping from planet to planet either. There is a magical butterfly you can follow which also jumps from planet to planet. If you follow the route that the butterfly takes and do it correctly for 12 times, you’ll be able to refill your super sneeze. The super sneeze allows you to  shoot straight up with incredible speed for a short amount of time. Once you use it, you’ll have to follow the butterfly again to gain another or you can find them randomly scattered around space.

The game features tons of interesting planetoid characters, some even have their own powers and characteristics that help Luna along the way. You however will also run into not so nice characters like blazing suns and black holes. Of course you’re always watching your back to for that nasty Crab Nebula who’s after you.

Overall, Paper Galaxy is one seriously fun game that does stand out from the rest of the endless jumping type games. There is enough uniqueness here that those who are bored with the genre will find something new and challenging with the gameplay offered. There really isn’t anything not to love about the game. The characters are varied and unique, art direction with the paper cutout look is great, and gameplay is fun. Those who enjoy the endless jumping type games will really enjoy Paper Galaxy as well.
