DrawQuest v1.0.1 for iPad Review

drawquest_iconDrawQuest, from Canvas, is the latest drawing related game on the iPad. Yes, a lot of you may have moved on from drawing games after the hugely popular Draw Something lost its appeal, I can tell you that DrawQuest is a much different animal. Unlike Draw Something, you don’t need other players in order to enjoy DrawQuest. The entire “game” itself can be played on your own. I put game in quotes because it’s not really a game in the traditional sense. It’s more like a series of creative challenges that you can partake in and then view the other solutions that other players have come up with.

DrawQuest presents you with a series of daily challenges. You can either choose to participate in that day’s challenge or go back and do previous ones. Each challenge is fairly simple and how you execute the challenge is entirely up to you. You can either draw something really simple or go out of your way to design a detailed masterpiece. Just remember that whatever you draw and submit will be public so they suggest that you keep you drawings clean and family friendly.

You get 4 simple tools that you can use – a paint brush, a marker, a pencil, an eraser along with some basic colors. Like Draw Something, you’ll get the chance to unlock more colors later, though it’s not necessary to enjoy the game.

DrawQuest can be fun and creative, especially if you like drawing. What’s neat is that you can go back to and previous challenge and even if you have completed them, you can still create something new and resubmit it to their servers for all to see. I also really like the fact that you don’t need to play with someone else which means you can keep on drawing instead of having to wait for someone to take their turn. That might have been the big issue with Draw Something in that waiting for someone to take a turn usually made you just lose interest in the game. With Draw Quest, you can just keep going and at your own pace. Then you can go back and check out how creative everyone else was.

DrawQuest is available now in the App Store for free. It is compatible with iPad. Requires iOS 5.1 or later.
