Top Bots is an asynchronous multiplayer racing game that allows you to race against friends or anyone in the world at your convenience. What that means is that you can race against people who might not even be playing at the same time as you because the game takes your best time and run and creates a ghost of it in the race. When you do enter a race, they show up in the game so you can see how your opponents do. What’s also unique is that you aren’t just limited to entering each race just once. You can enter it numerous times to improve your time as long as the race is still running.

I’ll start with gameplay since it’s really the most important aspect of a game. With respects to Top Bot, it is a fairly easy game to jump into and create or join races. Playing the game is fairly simple with 1-tap operations. Your bot moves forward on its own and all you have to do is tap on the screen to make it move up or let go to have him move down. You can pick up power-ups along the way for an advantage and those you activate by tapping on the power-up button. Again, race for the best time and you can re-race races over and over again to achieve this and better your score. Winning races earns more gold.

And with that comes a major part of Top Bot, the customization of you character using gold you earn. Here you can really make the character your own by customizing your characters color, facial features, hands, feet, and even the hat it wears. Beware though as you’ll need to play a lot to get unlock them all with gold or you can take the more expensive route and buy gold from the in-app purchasing. Remember, gold can also be used to unlock new power-ups so I’d probably save up for those instead as they affect the outcome of the race more than how your character looks.

Overall, Top Bot is a fun racing game for all. I like that you are racing against friends or anyone from around the world and that you can enter or start a race whenever you feel like it. It can be a bit tiresome however grinding for gold to buy power-ups and the races do take a while to finally end. By that I don’t mean the actual race itself but the amount of time a race stays active before it’s finally closed and the results are announced. Despite that, it’s a fun game and one that your kids too will probably enjoy. In fact I’ve caught my son playing it several times already since I’ve downloaded it so that’s a good sign.
