Cosmic Mechanic is a new game from developer Kimmo Lahtinen. This is a game for those who like to build awesome vehicles and solve puzzles. The story is as follows, you’re a space explorer who has crash landed on a mysterious planet and must find a way home. Use parts scavenged in each level to build a vehicle that will allow you to travel through each portal, ultimately leading you home.
What I really like about Cosmic Mechanic is the fact that this game really allows you to get creative. You can build pretty much anything your mind can think of as long as you use only the parts that they give you. It also means that there are multiple ways you can solve a level by rebuilding different types of vehicles to see which one works the best.
Graphically, the game isn’t bad at all. It’s nothing amazing or anything but it good enough for a game of this type. It’s a puzzle game after all so it doesn’t need the latest Unreal engine to make it look good. It’s mostly set on a rocky terrain with space in the background. It’s all 2D graphics but they do try to give it some depth by having different layers that move independently of each other. It’s a simple look but I like how it’s executed here.
Building your vehicle is quite simple to do. Your parts are listed at the bottom and you must build your vehicle in the given starting space. Drag the parts you want to use into this area and connect them at the connection points. You can rotate parts as well as elongate or shorten some of them. Once your vehicle is built, just hit play and you can use the little sliding controller on the side to move it forwards or backwards. Don’t worry if your vehicle fails at first as you can go back and refine your design. It’s a lot of trial and error but that’s what makes the game fun, being able to go back and change your design.
Overall, Cosmic Mechanic is a wonderfully creative game that kids and even adults can play. There are actually 4 different game modes available spread through the 50+ levels adding a lot of variety and ways to play. There really isn’t anything not to like about this game. It’s fun, creative, and and something the whole family can enjoy.
A deep space explorer crash lands on a mysterious planet. To get back home, you must engineer vehicles out of whatever parts you find and traverse the alien portal network left behind by a long gone ancient civilization.
Cosmic Mechanic is an exciting game about building cool gadgets and contraptions to navigate through many mind bending scenarios.
Features over 50 levels, 4 unique gameplay modes (puzzle, jump, time, collect) and lots of vehicle parts to experiment with.
Full retina resolution support with 60fps gameplay and rendering. Works fine on the original iPad 1 too!
