Odd Bot Out Review – Even Rejected Robots Should be Given a Chance [iOS]

oddbotout_iconOdd Bot Out is a new, contraption building puzzler by Martin Magni. Odd Bot Out is a rather intriguing game as it has you helping a rejected robot escape a rather unfortunate predicament. You see, the main character, Odd, was created at a robot factory and  does not seem to meet the qualifications necessary to pass QC and is immediately ejected for recycling. He doesn’t like this one bit and sets out to escape his situation, with a little help from you.

The object of the game is to lead Odd to the exit of each stage. This is done by simply dragging him so he can walk to the exit. The difficult part is how to get him to the exit as there will be a series of obstacles and puzzles standing in his way. All you need to really do is find spare parts laying around and combine them into things like stairs, platforms, etc that can help you traverse high walls or gaps in the floor. You can power up items with power boxes and can even take control of other discarded robots.

What’s really charming about Odd Bot Out though is the art style. There is a very minimalistic feel to it with its solid colors and geometric shapes, but it totally works for this game and actually makes Odd feel more alive. I like how most of the game is set in an almost white background with the only splashes of color coming from the spare parts you find scattered on each level.

Odd Bot Out is a rather fun contraption building puzzler. If you did happen to check out the trailer above, you’ll see that the game has much to offer in terms of gameplay and challenges. Each level you play gets progressively more difficult but each also introduces new elements in order to keep the game fresh. It never feels like you are repeating levels and that’s good because with around 100 levels, the last thing you want is a repetitive game. Odd Bot Out is a game with a lot of charm and character and one that I believe players of all ages will enjoy.
