Replay Review – Classic PC Games Trivia [iOS]

replay_iconTrivia games are only fun when they’re about something that you know. For instance, if you ask me questions about Game of Thrones, I would not be able to answer a single one. However, if you ask me questions about 80s and 90s PC games, well I just might be able to answer a few of those. Replay is a trivia game based solely around 80s and 90s PC games. The app shows you one frame from a game and you must guess what that game is with the jumble of letters that is given to you. It sounds easy at first, but some of these are so obscure, it’ll leave you scratching your head.

The app itself is easy to get around. It shows you one image of a game with a bunch of blank spaces below it signifying how many letters there are in the name of the game. There are then a bunch of random letters below that that you use to fill in the blanks. Replay itself isn’t a hard game at all, it’s all about just recognizing what the game is. If you don’t recognize the game, you can either spend coins to get hints or solve the puzzle and you can also ask your Facebook friends for help.

You’ll have to be pretty knowledgeable about old games because there are quite a few games they show that I just have no idea what they are. The games are separated into different levels with each level seemingly harder than the previous one. Right now I’m stuck on level 3, question 6 and I can’t move until I solve it. I’ve already used one hint to expose a couple letters, but I’m trying my best not to ask for the answer.

In terms of trivia apps, Replay isn’t all that bad at all. I like how these aren’t really questions and it’s more of being able to recognize a frame of a game. Games are visual so this is a really nice way of testing your knowledge. The only downside to the app might be the fact that you can’t move on until a question is solved. There’s no way to skip it if you don’t know it, unless you decide to spend coins to solve it. Right now I’ve hit a wall, but it’s a wall I’m determined to smash through without being fed the answer.
