Angry Birds Action Review! | Mobile

angrybirdsIt’s been a long time since I’ve touched an Angry Birds game, not since the Angry Birds Star Wars games first came out. While they were fun back then, there are just so many other really good games out now that there hasn’t really been a reason to go back to Angry Birds. Rovio seems to have rectified that with the release of the new Angry Birds Action! game that features completely new gameplay from the older games.

This time around, Angry Birds Action! is more like a pinball style game and less of a physics based tower destruction game. This is a top down game where your “Angry Bird” is the ball. It’s not quite pinball though as the goal isn’t to keep the ball in play to gather points. Instead, it’s a bit like the original Angry Birds where you pull back on your bird to let him loose and rescue eggs. You’re bird will go bouncing around until it finds your target.

Like in previous games, there are powerups you can apply as well as different birds with different abilities you can use (after you unlock them). Those pesky Piggies even make an appearance.

You can check out some gameplay footage I recorded earlier below.

The only real negative I have about the game is that because its a free-to-play game, you know there is some way they get you to try to pay for something and that comes in the form of energy. When you run out of energy (3), you can’t play anymore until the timer counts down and refills it. It takes a pretty long time for the timer to count down (20 minutes) and the only way to refill it quickly is with rubies. You can win rubies, but you get very little at a time. So to get a lot, you’ll have to buy them with real money. There are also quite a bit of ads that pop up.

Aside from that, it’s still a pretty decent game. I like that it’s not the same kind of Angry Birds game as their previous ones and all-in-all, it’s actually kind of fun. I don’t know how long I’ll keep playing it for, but so far, it’s helping me to pass the time.
