Slither.io Review | Mobile

slitherioSlither.io is an online, multiplayer game that is heavily influenced by games such as Snake and the Light Cycle portion of old school Tron. The objective in the game is to collect orbs and grow in length in order to climb up the leaderboards. You’ll have to contend with other players with the same goals who you’ll have to try and avoid or take head on and cause them to run into you, thus ending their run. Don’t run into them either or it’ll end your run as well.

Gameplay wise, Slither.io is a rather interesting take on Snake. You’re not limited to 90-degree turns in this game and can pretty much travel in any direction. You’re length depends on the number of glowing orbs you collect so that will be your goal. Each little orb will add a little bit of length. It can take a while to really make your worm lengthy unless you utilize some dirty tactics. By dirty I mean go after other players and cause them to smash into you. If you do this, they turn into a bunch of orbs that you can collect. These are concentrated amounts of orbs so your length shoots up tremendously if you do this. That’s why you’ll also see other players trying to sabotage your run. This makes for a pretty competitive game if you’re trying to show up in the top 10.

There are a few little oddities about Slither.io however. For starters, there is absolutely no sound in the game – no music and no sound effects. It’s a totally silent game. It’s an odd experience these days playing a game with no sound. Secondly, there’s no tutorial so you have to figure out how to play on your own and the controls aren’t exactly very intuitive. I’m still not sure what the correct way to control your worm is but you either tap in the direction you want to go on the screen or your drag your finger where you want to go. That’s all I’ve been able to figure out. This game is also strictly multiplayer so there’s no practice mode on your own.

Other than that, it’s an interesting game. It’s an interesting take on the traditional snake game and once you kind of figure out how to play, it’s pretty fun trying to get the longest snake and trying to take out other players online. If they can add some sort of music of sound effects to the game, it would make it even better. For now though, it’s a fun experience and it’s free. You can’t beat free.
