Hard Reset was a game that originally appeared on PC back in 2011 and has been remade and remastered for the PlayStation 4. Hard Reset Redux comes loaded with enhanced visuals, new enemies, improvements to balance and performance.
The world as we know it ceased to exist. Humanity is at the verge of extinction, living in the last closed city of Bezoar. Mankind wages war against the machines controlling vast areas of what became the ‘Barrens’. Machines want to control and assimilate ‘The Sanctuary’ a network that holds billions of digitalized human minds. Our hero, Maj. Fletcher, is a soldier of CLN – a corporation combat unit, established to protect the city. Machines are constantly assaulting the walls of Bezoar. Fletcher moves in when Bezoar’s protective barrier is breached.
As you can see from my gameplay video above, a story frames the action. Story elements are presented in a comicbook-book like format using hand drawn elements and speech bubbles, though all that text is spoken by voice actors. It’s not bad really, but doesn’t quite have the same impact that an animated video would have had. Most of you will probably just skip it to get to the actual game, which so far seems very good.
This is a first person shooter so all you really see is your weapon and a HUD which was very common when the game first came out. I don’t even think there is a body attached to the weapon, at least that’s what it feels like. Aside from that, the graphics in the game are very good with some really dark, but details environments. The lighting effects seem to be the highlight of the engine though with some pretty impressive explosions of both fire and electricity. Your weapon also displays some pretty good effects as well. But yeah, explosions here are the highlight and there are sure plenty of them. Enemies explode to your amusement and many parts of the environment seem to also be destructible.
For a game that came out originally in 2011, the gamepaly is still surprisingly fun. The gun play is interesting because of the unique weapons and the use of the environment to cause damage is also pretty neat. It’s pretty satisfying when you can blow up a group of enemies using an explosive barrel.
I’ve played about an hour of it so far and so far, it’s kept be interested so I’ll most likely keep playing it to the end. Stay tuned for more gameplay videos and remember to subscribe to my channel at: http://www.youtube.com/c/Thegamerwithkids
