Those who know me personally or have been following the site for long enough, know that for the longest time I was purely an iPhone user. Many of the mobile reviews I did on here were for iPhone related gadgets, accessories, apps, and games. It wasn’t until a couple years ago that I started to regularly use both iOS and Android and during that time, I’ve come to appreciate the things Android can do as well as the devices that use Android. I’d like to emphasize “devices” because it’s these new devices that really got me interested in Android.
I personally used an iPhone 5 until the end of last year when I switched full time to and Android device. That’s because for the most part, I haven’t been too impressed with any of the new iPhones Apple had come out with. While they were good phones, I just didn’t see the need to update to a device that wasn’t really that much different from my iPhone 5. However, Android phones seem to be different, especially from the big name companies like Samsung. Every year, they seem to make almost huge jumps in tech and features with their hardware. It’s come to the point now I think where they’ve gotten to the point where if the next iPhone doesn’t make any really huge changes again, I might be finally done with them.
With that said, Samsung today just announced the new Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ and OMG do they look gorgeous, especially the S8+. What really catches my attention here is the curved screen that makes it look like the display is just bleeding off the edges and how small the bezels are on the top and bottom. Samsung calls this the “Infinity Display”, a design forms a smooth, continuous surface without harsh angles. The result is a large display, not a large phone. The home button is also gone with the fingerprint sensor now moved to the rear of the device.
The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ will also have amazing cameras again with an 8MP F1.7 Smart autofocus front camera and 12MP F1.7 Dual Pixel rear camera for the best low-light, zoom and anti-blur photos with enhanced image processing.
Other really notable features include:
- IP68 water and dust resistance
- MicroSD support up to 256GB
- Always-on display
- Fast and wireless charging capabilities
I mean this is only the beginning of 2017 so far and Samsung already is releasing this beauty of a device. That has me excited about what other phone manufacturers have planned and based on all the iPhone 8 rumors, I’m hoping that means Apple will be stepping up their game this year as well.
