LG is jumping into the folding phone market, but not in the way the others are. While Samsung and Huawei both have devices coming out with folding screens, LG has instead gone the route of just adding a second screen to a single screen smartphone via a Dual Screen accessory. The first iteration being that of the the LG V50 ThinQ while a more refined version will be available soon on the LG G8X.

In preparation of the LG G8X release, LG sent me a Korean market LG V50 ThinQ with the Dual Screen accessory case so I can get a feel for how the US market LG G8X will be like when it arrives.

With that said, this isn’t a review just yet. In fact, I only got the phone yesterday. Instead I’ll show you some unboxing photos so you can see what both the LG V50 ThinQ and the Dual Screen accessory come with and how a Korean market phone differs from the U.S. market phone. Mainly, the charging plug is different and the LG V50 ThinQ Korean model has pogo pins on the back where as the U.S. market one does not.

Because this is a Korean market device, I’m not really going to go all that in-depth on the phone itself when the review does go up. Instead, the review will cover more of the uniqueness of the Dual Screen accessory and what uses you might have for it.

Until then, here’s a list of a few details from my first day of usage.

• The LG V50 ThinQ is almost exactly like my old LG V40 ThinQ. The main difference being that the rear camera hump is gone and everything is now flush. It looks way cleaner and so much more premium looking.
• There’s an audio jack!
• Using the phone with the Dual Screen takes a bit to get used to. Typing can be a little awkward. Using the camera can also be a little weird.
• The Dual Screen accessory looks like it should have a screen on the front. It doesn’t.
• Ooh, the case has its own notification light and charging indicator.
• You can’t see who’s calling you when the case is shut.
• The whole setup feels like a Nintendo 3DS XL. It’s not as thick as I thought it would be, but it’s still thick. It still fits in your pocket however.
• The screen on the Dual Screen accessory is smaller then the screen on the V50 ThinQ. The resolution is also lower which affects the how high you can set the LG V50 ThinQ.
• The case only has 3 positions that it stays open at.
• Being able to use two apps at once seems pretty useful, more useful than .
• It looks like there’s a screen protector on the Dual Screen screen. I’m not going to remove it.

That’s all I got for now. Be on the lookout for the full review which will be in the very near future. I already see this as quite an interesting experience and one that is much different than normal.
