Urban Armor Gear Scout Series Case for LG V50 ThinQ | Review

UAG Scout Case for LG V50 ThinQ

There’s a trend with all the phones I own and that’s protecting them with cases from Urban Armor Gear. That’s not me just saying that because they send me these cases to look at. That’s me being genuinely pleased with every case I’ve ever used from them for every phone from the iPhone 5 to the LG V50 ThinQ I’m using now. Over those years, UAG has made significant improvements to their classic design and have even released new models in different styles such as the Scout Series. This is a much cleaner looking case then their more aggressively styled Plasma series ones but feature the same solid protection UAG is known for.

Like I stated above, the Scout Series line of cases is a newer design and breaks away from UAG’s more traditional styles. It features a lightweight construction, impact resistant soft core, non-slip ruggedized grip, raised screen surround, and meets military drop-test standards (MIL STD 810G 516.6). The case is mostly matte black with both smooth and rough textures.

Like all UAG cases I’ve looked at before, I really like how solid this case feels. The materials they use are flexible, but when it’s on, it’s very stiff and rigid. That lets you know that it isn’t going anywhere once it’s on. The added rough textures give a nice, tactile feel that really helps with hand grip and makes the LG V50 ThinQ much easier to hold. All the necessary holes are also in place for all the ports, speakers, and mics as well. I like the larger charging plug hole as some cases make this way to small to accommodate all sizes of charging cables.

Of note, the case I received is a bit different from the Scout photos they show online on their site. Mainly there’s a few cosmetic differences which maybe were a last minute change. For starters, the power button is not covered and is left open. This might be to allow for your thumb to more easily find it by just touch. Secondly, on the back, there is a cutout for the cameras and the 5G logo. It’s one large cutout on mine where as in photos, it shows separate cutouts for both. Not sure why it changed here, but it doesn’t make that much of a difference.

Final Thoughts

While not a flashy case, I appreciate the understated nature of the way it looks. It’s very simple in comparison to UAG’s other more aggressively styled cases and while it only comes in black, I like the stealth look of it. It doesn’t draw very much attention which is a plus for me as it keeps prying eyes away. Those that want a rugged case for their LG V50 ThinQ, but don’t want that rugged look should consider the Scout Series from UAG. It retails for $29.99 and can be found here on their site or pick it up on Amazon here.
