Smartphones are getting better and better each year and I’m not just talking about the software or specs. Build quality is also getting better with the use of stronger materials and glass. And while these new materials and meant to stand up to the rigors of everyday life, I still don’t trust myself with a naked device which is why I still choose to run a case with my phones. I like to keep them in near mint condition because using a device with a huge crack down the front or back just isn’t cool. With that said, let’s take a look at the Otterbox Symmetry case which is available for a variety of devices, but we’ll be looking specifically at the one for the LG V60 ThinQ 5G.
Otterbox is known for making tough, bulky cases meant to withstand anything you can throw at them. The Symmetry series of cases however are their more subdued cases that are meant to be slimmer, yet still as protective. If you care more about style, you’ll probably want to go for this as they are more attractive than their more well-known Defender series.
For the LG V60 ThinQ 5G, the Otterbox Symmetry case only comes in black. The bulk of the case is made of polycarbonate supplemented with synthetic rubber around the border. Of note here is that the inside of the case doesn’t include any of that rubber, other than on the sides so the bottom of the inside is just polycarbonate. That means this doesn’t quite have as much shock protection as some other cases we’ve looked at.
In terms of fitment, the Otterbox Symmetry fits like a glove and is a handsome case on the LG V60. The raised screen bumpers help protect the screen from downward drops and the case also features rubber button covers that keep all functionality intact. Openings for the audio jack, USB-C port, and the speaker is present. While most of the openings needed are there, there is one issue that others have complained about that I see here too. It is missing a mic opening that is located above the volume buttons. For some reason, this is covered up and only the two other mic openings are present.
According to Otterbox, covering this mic doesn’t seem to affect any of the functionality on the LG V60. They may be right, but I’m sure some of you will find this a bit bothersome so take that into consideration with this version of the Symmetry.
Aside from that issue, I quite like the Otterbox Symmetry. It’s a handsome case that fits well and feels good in your hands. It is fairly slim and doesn’t add much bulk to an already large device. There are no issues with taking the case in and out of your pockets and the case itself does feel pretty solid and protective. So for the most part, I think the Otterbox Symmetry is pretty good and deserves a look if you’re searching for a protective, functional case for your phone.
