Tips and Tricks: Squeeze a Little More Battery Life From Your Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G

While the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G does sport a 5000mAh battery, that doesn’t mean it’ll last you all day. There are many factors that can increase or decrease battery life and I’m sure many of you have your own little tricks you use to conserve battery. With that said, here are some tips and tricks I use on my own Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G that might help squeeze a few extra percent that have worked for me so far.

1 – Enable Adaptive Battery mode. This setting mainly just limits battery usage for apps you don’t use often. No point letting apps you don’t use drain your battery.

2 – Enable Background Usage Limits. Let the phone manage which apps get limited battery usage. It’ll decide which apps go into sleep mode and deep sleep mode based on usage. This won’t affect apps that you use all the time.

3 – Check your Battery Usage page to see which apps are using the most battery based on the amount of time they’re being used. Most likely, you’ll find that most social networking apps and many games eat up the most battery.

4 – For apps that do use a lot of battery, you can try to limit the background usage of these when not in use. Go to settings > apps and then click on the app. I’ll use Instagram as an example. From there click Mobile Data and disable Background Data Usage. Then you can also go into the Battery section and disable Allow Background Activity. Note that this will not affect your notifications and you’ll still receive these.

5 – Use Bixby Routines to automatically turn on and off features you don’t use. For instance, you can use it to turn on WiFi when you get home or to work, and then turn WiFi off when you leave. You can also do this for NFC and Bluetooth. This will conserve battery by not having them on when you don’t need to have them on. I use my location to determine when I need them on and off.

6 – I also use Bixby Routines to change my display settings when I’m not home. I drop my screen resolution to FHD+ instead of WQHD+ and change Motion Smoothness from Adaptive to Standard. I figure there’s no point having it run that high if most of the time my phone is sitting in my pocket or I’m just using it to look at my notifications or to pick up calls when I’m out. I care more about the quality once I get home where I’m more inclined to watch videos, play games, etc.

7 – Use Dark Mode. Supposedly the use of dark mode conserves battery though you might not really notice it if you’re a heavy phone user. I use it because it just looks cool. I’ve also switched my home wallpaper to a solid black, though my lockscreen I still use a picture.

That’s pretty much all the settings I use to keep the battery lasting longer on the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G. However, I should point out though that if you’re using your phone constantly, you’ll still be eating up the battery and especially if you’re on a carrier network connection and on 5G. Being on Wi-Fi I believe does conserve a bit of power so keep that in mind. Also, if you spend hours on social media apps and playing games, you won’t be saving battery no matter what you do.

Hope this helps. If you have any tips of your own, leave them in the comments below.
