Rotor Riot Wired Game Controller for Android | Review

Rotor Riot Wired Game Controller

I’m willing a lot of you game on your Android phones and while many of you might not need this, I bet there are some out there that wish they had a controller when playing their favorite games. I know there are some popular FPS games that could benefit from a controller as well as other games that would be more fun with one. That’s where something like the Rotor Riot Wired Game Controller would come into play. This is a wired game controller for Android that allows for full controller support if the game you want to play supports it.

Let’s start this off with just what the Rotor Riot Wired Game Controller is. This is basically a controller loosely modeled after an Xbox controller with the same type of joystick and button layout. The body itself also is modeled a bit after the Xbox controllers, but the center part feels a lot thicker, which makes the grips a tiny bit less comfortable to hold, as your fingers don’t have as much depth to grip.

What makes this a mobile controller though is the inclusion of a smartphone holder that attaches to the top of the controller, called the ZeroG mobile holder. This way, you can attach your Android phone to the controller and turn this into a sort of mini handheld console. The holder is very sturdy and I like the way it attaches to the controller with a metal thumbscrew. What could be better though is if the holder had a tilt function to adjust the angle, but it doesn’t.

Because this isn’t a Bluetooth controller, you will have to plug in the attached USB-C cable to your phone. Make note that I did say USB-C, so phones with older-style USB ports will not be able to use the Rotor Riot Game Controller. What is neat though if you’re able to use this is that there is a passthrough connector at the bottom of the controller so if you plug in another USB-C cable, you can charge your phone while you play.

Overall, the Rotor Riot Wired Game Controller offers very nice build quality in a familiar form factor.

Now let’s talk about what you can actually the Rotor Riot Wired Game Controller for. First up, you’ll probably want to download the LUDA MAPP app in order to find games that support controller use. I say “games that support controller use” because while there are games that do, there honestly really aren’t as many as there should be. Especially when some games seem like they would, but they don’t. However, there are some great games that do though such as Minecraft, Fortnite, and the new Rocket League Sideswipe game.

So with that said, while a game controller might not be for everyone who games on their phone, those who do want one will benefit from getting one, just so long as the game you want to play supports it. If it does, the Rotor Riot Wired Gaming Controller is a solid choice.
