This week we’ve been playing a few games here and there including this one from developer Crawl Space Games. It’s called Zombie Ala Mode and its a combination of two unlikely genres. The core game itself is similar to that of Scoops where your character must catch scoops of falling ice cream. The difference is that in Zombie Ala Mode, instead of seeing how high you can make your scoops, you must instead catch specific scoops in order to complete customer orders. In this game you work in an ice cream parlor and must fill the requests of customers who visit the shop. In case you haven’t guessed it, the game features an undead element to it – zombies. Don’t worry though, no one gets harmed in this game, in fact the zombies are there just to add something different to the game. The world of Zombie Ala Mode is like some alternate reality where everyone is a zombie and they are just like you or I trying to make some bucks.

Zombie Ala Mode uses the iPhone’s tilt sensors to move your character. It’s very simple as all you need to do is tilt left or right to move him to collect the ice cream scoops. To give them to customers, you just tap the screen where their hands are. It’s fairly simple. In the options menu, there is even a way to adjust the tilt sensitivity which is great because it’s a bit twitchy when you first start off so you may want to lower the sensitivity a little.

Gameplay wise, it’s pretty fun. It’s more in-depth than Scoops is since you need to do more and adds a level of challenge too. It can get a bit hectic when there are a lot of customers asking for complicated ice cream orders so you need to stay on your toes as the game progresses. Zombie Ala Mode also has 3 game different game modes, but you have to complete the career mode before you can unlock the other two.

All-in-all, it’s a pretty fun game even with the strange zombie theme attached to it but it works and adds a bit of uniqueness to it that helps it stand out from the other similar styled games. There isn’t anything to really say negative about the game as the gameplay is solid and the controls are pretty tight as it is so I’d say that Zombie Ala Mode is an all around solid game that is quite fun to play. It is also very family friendly and young kids should be able to pick up and play this game with no problems at all. The zombies themselves are also pretty “cute” so no chance of the game really scaring the little ones. I do recommend this title for anyone who wants to play a fun addictive game that is more in-depth than the other games in it’s genre.
